Love Life? ...Give Life..... Give Blood

I received an interesting letter thanking me for my recent donation. Being quite concerned that I hadn't actually donated for nearly a year, I gave them a call to check someone wasn't trying to impersonate me. "Everything's fine. I'm not sure why the letter was sent as we have your last donation recorded". Phew! Was it just a reminder then, that I am able to do something and should. I think so. Appointment is now booked and I will be off to donate blood once again.

It's going to be...

a good one! The weather is B E A U tiful this morning which is going to make Gaz's BBQ a fab event. Although I have a lot to get done this morning I am looking forward to my walk to Cleveleys - it's so nice it would be a shame not to. Ma and Pa are off to Manchester today for a sleep over - hope the weather is as good there as it is here. I'm so excited as I have discovered a new crafting club I can join. Once a month at only £3.50 and lots of sumptuous food to be devoured!  Knittaz with Attitude! Here I come. My sister will be joining me as well which is great. We haven't seen that much of each other lately (as happens when you grow up and get your own life) but we are slowly coming back together again and I feel that we will be a great support for each other. The Quay girls are on a mission - to make the world a better place - starting at home. Unbelievably, at drama, I have been criticised for trying to do my utmost to get people to be friendly to each other wh...

The delights of the sunshine...

What a glorious couple of days I've had. The weather has been lovely and I have been able to spend sometime with my special guy along with seeing some friends. I keep forgetting how much fun board games can be. On our travels today we saw the exhibition at the Marsh Mill  and were able to see the wonderful artwork of our friend Paul Harding . A very interesting character, talking to Paul and our other friend Helen always produces some interesting topics. A nice intelligent conversation without being too highbrow. I swear we end up putting the world to rights. I'm a bit worried about Mr H at the moment as he seems very downhearted with drama at the moment when usually it is his passion. He cares too much and people have inevitably taken advantage of this whinging about their personal affairs as though they expect him to sort it out. He only only human. When asked as potential Chair of the group what I would do in the event of people falling out I re...

Remember to always have fun....

...but never at the expense of others. Variety is the spice of life they say so celebrate your differences as things that make you stand out from the crowd in a positive way and remember if we were all the same life would be very boring indeed. Never allow anyone to dictate what you do, they will not have to deal with the consequences. These last few weeks have been real eye openers for me. At the risk of sounding repetitive, I really think we should all take the time to remember that everyone has issues of one kind or another and in this stress filled world we live in with time and financial constraints not even taking into account illness or anything else of seriousness, we should do each other the honour of being as understanding as we can to one another. I have spent my school placement this year at a Catholic college and although I do not consider myself to be a true believer, the ethos at the college is something that I definitely subscribe to. It is a place where young p...

Message in a bundance

Thanks Rihanna for the wonderful message you are sending to chidren and young people. "'Cause I may be bad, but I'm perfectly good at it Sex in the air, I don't care, I love the smell of it Sticks and stones may break my bones But chains and whips excite me " Lyrics to her new song S&M. I don't consider myself to be a prude by any stretch of the imagination and I also think that sometimes health and safety measures that are put in place can be considered overkill but we have ratings on films and games but allow people to watch soft porn in the form of music videos without any complaints. Today at 3.30pm (just in time for the school run) our local radio station were playing this song. And we wonder why our young girls are anorexic, getting themselves pregnant or at the very least being treated for STIs.  Common sense people please. Of course while there is money in it it is very unlikely to change. High street stores have picked up on the clothin...

The end is nigh...

Three weeks to go until the end of term. In that time I have two assignments to complete and two weeks of school placement so it's going to be a little hectic. I shouldn't have to do too much teaching this time as I am only there for two weeks and I'm really looking forward to learning about the other sides to teaching like marking, statistics and meetings. I imagine that is the worst part for most but I love getting things organised and problem solving. I have a pretty good weekend in store too. My fella is coming round later tonight and we are going to chill on the sofa with a bottle of wine and a film (or X-Files). Tomorrow I actually have no plans so we can do something on the spur of the moment. Maybe a walk and a film. I quite fancy watching Attack the Block as it has Nick Frost in it although no Simon Pegg so I will have to wait and see whether I enjoy it as much. If you like scary films by the way you should definitely watch Insidious. It's jumpy which I love....

Mad woman in the attic or angel in the house?

Today I have definitely been the mad woman in the attic in more ways than one. A bird managed to find its way in there and was flitting about. It must have been terrified. A long pole, a large blanket, a large scrunched up piece of paper and some very scary moments and the bird is now safely outside and will not be getting back in. Poor thing. This is me trying to write my next assignment based on the Romantic poets, nature and theories of the sublime. On top of that, I have another in a couple of weeks on Victorian writing. Trying to read while you have a bird flying about above you is not easy let me tell you. I find much of English literature to be contradictory. Romanticism for example is said to be linked with nature and childhood and that overwhelming sense of magnitude. What are we basing this on? A selection of poems from a group of poets handpicked by those in power. Has anyone thought to look elsewhere? I'm sure they have but I am unable to find much evidence of this. ...
